Apartment Bedroom Designs
If you have visited a number of different houses in different towns and/or cities, you might have gone to various bedrooms and noticed diversity in the way they are designed or set up. What is popular in interior design is following some sort of “theme” which is apparent throughout the entire house, but particularly in bedroom design. One such design that is evident in today’s houses is known as contemporary bedroom design.
How do you define contemporary bedroom design? The word “contemporary” simply means modern or current. So in essence, contemporary bedroom design means that it is a bedroom design that is more of a sign of the times. Design of bedrooms was very much different decades ago, more so centuries ago. Therefore, you may think of contemporary bedroom design as a relatively new school of thought in the world of interior design.
Life today is different than before. Today it is much busier and more industrialized. Cities are becoming overpopulated, which translates into more people needing places to live in. This is the reason why there are apartments and condominiums now for sale or for rent. In taking these things into consideration, contemporary bedroom design was born. The main idea in this school of thought is simplicity.
When you see a bedroom with contemporary design, you will notice that there are very few decorations (if none at all). Why so? Since simplicity is the key in contemporary bedroom design, the simpler it is, the better. Not much thought is placed on where the bed is set, where the chairs are, where the television is, other than where these are practical. In this type of bedroom design, there is a good amount of space in the middle of the room, and the furniture is placed in ideal locations, where it is easy for the person to go to (or where he prefers). Unlike other types of bedroom design wherein extra space is filled out with decors, the space in this form of design remains to be space.
The difference between contemporary bedroom design with other types of interior design is that others make use of decors to try to enhance the look. For example, in a country home, bedrooms usually have paintings or wallpapers that reflect nature, since the home is situated in an area surrounded by nature – trees, plants, animals, lakes, etc.
In a regular city home or apartment wherein the bedroom reflects contemporary design, it remains to be plain and stark in which simplicity is really evident. Another difference is the use of shapes. In contemporary bedroom design, a rectangular shape is primarily used. This shape is thought to be effective, but at the same time beautiful, which is why there is no emphasis on decors to be placed. In other forms of bedroom design, round shapes (including ovals) are more common

How to Design an Ocean Themed Bedroom
Paint
Start the project by painting the walls and the ceiling. The colors that are suitable for the ocean themed bedroom are deep ocean blue and sea green. To create the desired effect, paint the lower portion of the walls with dark ocean blue and apply lightest green to the ceiling. Apply the strokes from floor to the ceiling and use two coats of the paint.
Add Creatures To The Walls
Adding creatures on the wall will accentuate the look of the room. Trace pictures of fish or other sea creatures onto large pieces of construction paper. Cut out the figures and paste them onto the walls, using double sided tapes. Add details to the creatures, like eyes and scales for fish. Stenciling creatures onto the walls is also a nice idea. Wall murals play a vital part in ocean themed bedrooms. You can paste life-size murals of water-plants or underwater creatures on the walls.
Furniture
The furniture of the bedroom should complement the over-all decor. This can be done by painting each piece with a single color. It is a good idea to choose the same color that you have used for the walls. This will create a camouflage effect, apart from the illusion of increased space. Let your furnishing also reflect the ocean theme – paste stickers of sea creatures to the furniture and adorn it with seashells.
feng shui rules for bedrooms
Feng Shui
– which means ‘wind water’ in Chinese - is the ancient Chinese art of creating a harmonious physical environment, which can be anything from a single room to an entire building or garden. One of the most important beliefs of Feng Shui is that everything is connected by energy, meaning that your feelings and emotions are influenced by your physical environment and surroundings. Most of us practice the basic ideas of Feng Shui on an everyday basis without even being aware of it – simply put, when applied to your home it is the art of placing furniture, pictures, ornaments, lighting etc so that they best creates a pleasant environment.
The principles of Feng Shui are particularly important in the bedroom as it’s a room that most of us spend more time in than any other - about a third of our lives in. And to most of us, the bedroom is also a room where we can hopefully escape from work, noisy children and the stresses of everyday life. A bedroom should be a room that is conducive to a good nights sleep, relaxation and perhaps romance. A dark, untidy and unwelcoming bedroom can create feelings of lethargy and depression, especially when you are asleep but your mind is still active.
Before you even enter the bedroom itself, the doorway is important in Feng Shui. It is good to have a door that opens at least 90 degrees, anything less than this is considered restrictive and symbolically may prevent good luck or good opportunities from entering your life. Practitioners of Feng Shui also suggest a device known as a ‘greeter’ in your bedroom. This is the first thing you see when you enter the bedroom, the focal point of the room – it could be anything from a large painting, photograph, fireplace or striking piece of furniture. As far as the decoration of your bedroom goes, try to avoid stimulating colors like red and gold on the walls – instead, use relaxing colors such as pastel blue, green or yellow.
Bedroom Decoration

Tips for redecorating a bedroom
1. Plan a budget. Figure out how much money you can afford to spend on this project after comparing it with competing household needs. Decide whether you want to pay it all or part in cash, and how much, if any, you will make in monthly payments. Add up expenditures like furniture, carpet, wall and window coverings, and accent pieces. Make adjustments if you cannot afford to pay for everything you would like to do all at once. For example, perhaps you can leave the new window drapes for your income tax return or year-end bonus.
2. Design a layout. Will you keep the room arranged the way it currently is or have you decided to rearrange things? Should anything be removed or added, like a night stand or antique rocker? Consider practicality so that the room does not look cluttered or bare.
3. Choose a color scheme. Dark, pastel, or neon colors are some of the widely diverse selections that people make to furnish their rooms. Match the colors with other shadings throughout the house, especially the hall and bathroom nearest the bedroom.
4. Coordinate patterns. If you opt to go for a solid pastel color on the walls, you may want a patterned border at the top or on one wall. Wallpaper and paint store catalogs can help you visualize how well some colors and prints will go together before you actually purchase them. If the bedroom has an adjoining bath, you may want to extend the ceiling border to that room as well for a unified link between both rooms.
5. Match carpet and window coverings. The shadings need not be exact, but they should complement each other for a cohesive appearance. Add accent pieces like oak-framed pictures that will go hand-in-hand with the oak bedroom suit, for example. You may want your carpet to be a shade or two lighter or darker than the walls, depending on the room's size and lighting.
6. Purchase furniture. Select a wood grain that goes with your walls and carpet, or vice versa. Add decor pieces like a bedspread, lamp, or bookshelf that complete your desired "look," such as country, French provincial, etc. Don't overdo it or the room will feel contrived.
7. Check with a contractor. In fact, get two or more estimates and contact the Better Business Bureau to be sure the contractor under consideration has a solid reputation and offers a good price within a reasonable time frame.
